In November 2025, the SPP2248 community met again for its second internal workshop, hosted by Prof. Yan Lu at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin and the Adlershof science campus. Thirty-four participants, including doctoral researchers, postdocs, principal investigators, and SPP2248 board members, continued the scientific exchange initiated in Ulm.
The workshop combined research presentations with tutorials, laboratory visits, and discussions covering polymer electrodes, operando characterization, tomography, covalent organic frameworks, and sustainable battery concepts.
A major highlight was the tomography tutorial by Dr. Ingo Manke, followed by a laboratory tour demonstrating advanced three-dimensional imaging techniques for battery materials. Participants also visited the synchrotron facility BESSY II, where the scale and complexity of the accelerator and beamline infrastructure provided valuable insight into modern large-scale characterization methods. Tutorials by Dr. Risse and Dr. Müller further illustrated how synchrotron techniques support operando battery research.
Scientific discussions continued well beyond the formal sessions and into the evening networking events, further strengthening collaborations across chemistry, materials science, theory, and advanced characterization.
