Internal Workshop in Karlsruhe

The third internal workshop was held at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in April 2026 and hosted by Prof. Patrick Theato. Bringing together 26 PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and principal investigators from diverse scientific backgrounds, the meeting continued the rotating workshop concept while emphasizing interdisciplinary exchange and community building.

Scientific presentations addressed conductive polymers, deep eutectic electrolytes, advanced imaging methods, and sustainable electrode materials. A keynote lecture by Prof. Oliver Dumele offered an inspiring perspective on scientific careers, illustrating how persistence in research can lead to unexpected discoveries and new research directions.

Another recurring topic was the growing role of artificial intelligence in scientific research. Participants discussed opportunities and limitations of AI-supported workflows, data analysis, and literature evaluation, reflecting the forward-looking orientation of the SPP2248 community.

Poster sessions, laboratory tours, and informal discussions created numerous opportunities for networking and collaboration. The Karlsruhe venue also provided historical context through its connections to the Haber–Bosch process and Hermann Staudinger's early career, linking the workshop to important milestones in chemistry and polymer science.
